Shahadah – The Declaration of Faith in Islam
Shahadah is the first and most important pillar of Islam. It is the declaration of faith that makes a person a Muslim. By sincerely believing in and reciting the Shahadah, a person affirms their faith in Allah ﷻ as the One true God and Muhammad ﷺ as His final Messenger.
The Shahadah is not just a statement to be spoken; it is a belief that must come from the heart and be reflected in one’s actions and way of life.
📜 The Words of Shahadah
The Shahadah is recited as:
“Ash-hadu an la ilaha illallah, wa ash-hadu anna Muhammadan Rasoolullah.”
Meaning:
I bear witness that there is no god worthy of worship except Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah.
What the Quran Says About Shahadah
Allah ﷻ says in the Holy Quran:
“Allah bears witness that there is no deity except Him, and [so do] the angels and those of knowledge.”
(Surah Aal-e-Imran 3:18)
This verse emphasizes the core belief of Tawheed (Oneness of Allah), which is the foundation of Shahadah.
Hadith About the Importance of Shahadah
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said:
“Whoever says, ‘There is no god but Allah,’ will enter Paradise.”
(Bukhari & Muslim)
This Hadith highlights the immense value of sincere belief in the Shahadah.
